Candidate Students at Muntuyera High school Kitunga were yesterday sent home following a riot at school that resulted from a disagreement over an election at the school.
The students allegedly fought when members of the candidate classes demanded for bribes from students in S.5 and S.3 who were campaigning for prefectorial positions.
The candidate students demanded that whoever wants to campaign in their classes parts with an amount of money an issue that angered non candidate students especially those in S.5.
In the ensuing fracas the candidate students attempted to torch the S.5 Dormitory but the fire was put out before it could cause extensive damage.
The school chaplain Rev Patrick Kwarisima said the staff contained the strike with aid from police from Rwashamaire town.
The Ntungamo district education officer Mr Fred Bahati said the authorities have resolved to send home students in S.4 and S.6 whom they believe instigated the riots as they monitor the situation and assess the damages.
The school head master Mr Twine Muganga said apart from the burnt dormitory the students never damaged school property. He says the strike was an unfortunate incident after a long time of containing several situations.
End.
