In Kasese—
Kasese District Education Officer, Mr. Ernest Bwambale Thabugha has advised the proprietors and Head teachers of schools that were affected by the recent floods from River Nyamwamba to either relocate the learners or close the boarding facilities.
According to him, the act would help to control the learners and also minimize their risk of being affected by floods especially during the night hours.
He sounded the advice yesterday afternoon while speaking to our reporter at his office in Rukoki.
He also observed need for them to establish some contacts with the people living in the upper side of the river valley so that in case the river shows signs of flooding, they can be alerted.
The District Education Officer used the same platform to appeal to the parents to send their children to their respective schools for third term that started yesterday morning.
In a related development, Mr. Cyprus Kyana, the Head teacher at Trusted Care Junior School in Kasese town reported that they were seriously working on a water channel that passes through their premises.
Kyanya, who commended the parents for sending their children to school, reported that today’s enrolment was pleasing.
At Mundongo Primary School in Nyakiyumbu Sub-county, 876 pupils including 413 males and 463 females turned up while the teachers present were 20.
