Buhweju county Member of Parliament Francis Mwijukye wants government to set school fees ceiling if children from disadvantages families are to also attain good quality education.
Mwijukye is concerned that many schools in Uganda have been turned into money making platforms and hence affordable to only children from well to do families.
He says it’s surprising to find that even government schools are increasing fees higher than private schools when they receive funding from government.
The mp says for all Ugandan children to attain good quality education, government must come up and regulate the fees paid in various schools.
Mwijukye says unless this is done, it will create classes in the society with the rich getting richer and the poor poorer which will not allow the country to attain the desired middle income status.
The Mp’s comments come after the Ministry of Education and Sports allowed secondary schools to increase school fees to meet the rising cost of living
