In Kabale…………….
Christians and Leaders of Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Churches in Greater Kabale want the government to channel some of its poverty alleviation programs through religions, if they are to effectively serve the intended purpose of fighting poverty.
They were speaking today at Kabale Central SDA Church during the function where the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira was delivering 100 goats to benefit the Christians of the 10 SDA churches in Kabale district.
The goats were delivered by her political assistant Alex Akampurira.
The overseer of Greater Kabale Seventh Day Adventist churches Stevenson Tumwesigye, the pastor of Bigaaga division SDA churches Moses Tumwesigye, an Evangelist at SDA Kabale central Edward Muhwezi and christians including Allen Baryayesiima, and Peace Musinguzi said that despite the government has always encouraged religious leaders to preach the gospel based on fighting poverty, it would be very important, if the government comes up with some projects and channel them to religions so as they can act as an examples of development and also helps proper implementation.
They added that the poverty alleviation programs which the government has brought in, has always favored few Christians from a few religions leaving others behind but when some projects like livestock and agro inputs are channeled through religious leaders, this would help in proper implementation by benefiting very poor people. They commended Atwakiire for launching such a project to SDA Churches.
The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, over the weekend launching the donation of the Goats to SDA Churches at Rubaya playground during the belated Kabale Women’s day celebrations, she said that she is currently supporting households with domestic animals to help in the fight against poverty at the family level.
She further said that the suggestion of the Christians and leaders for some government programs to be channeled to religions would be a good idea, adding that she would push for it for consideration.
