SEVERE RAINS, HAILSTORM HIT RUKUNGIRI, DESTROY CROPS

Severe rains characterized with hailstorm have destroyed acres of crops in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri district.

The villages which were affected are Katabushera, Omukareere, Nyamiyaga, Kazindiro, Nyakariro and Ruhiira village all in Bugangari Sub County.

“We have suffered huge losses and we are worried about our next mode of survival since most of us were using these gardens to service loans” Farmers lamented.

Monday Pius, a farmer from Nyamiyaga A village said that his banana plantations was grounded  and this will cut short his efforts to educate his children and looking after his family.

Banyenzaki Demiano another victim says he is worried on how he will pay back the UGX 3 M loans since his main source of income was brought down by rainstorm.

Rukaranga Jimmy, a model farmer in Ruhiira village is calling upon the Government to intervene before the situation worsens.

The Bugangari Sub county district councilor Mr. Kato Alfred wants the government to declare this a disaster and immediately come in to offer food relief to the affected villages.

Mr Kato now encourages farmers to practice agro forestry to stem out similar calamities in future.
