A man in Sheema District is facing trouble after eating the association’s funds without members’ knowledge that were given to him on trust.
Lauben Buherezo aged around 72 a resident of Nyakibeere 2, Kasaana subcounty Sheema district is being accused of embezzling money worth Ugx1.57M of the association commonly known as “MWEZIIKYE” group of Nyakibeere II.
Buherezo who has been serving as the treasurer of the above mentioned group for three years has however done nothing but backsliding it until members resolved to forcefully throw him out of the office.
Byanyima Naboth the current association’s secretary told our reporter that Buherezo and Ex-secretary have been having disagreements on who should keep the money where by everyone wanted to keep it.
He added that when they counted books, they found 1.57M missing and that when the treasurer (Mr. Buherezo) was asked, he answered that he used the money for other things.
Yosam Katukore the MWEZIIKYE Chairman also speaking to our reporter said that they had given Buherezo an ultimatum of 14 days to have handed over the office but still he had failed to comply.
“We tried our level best to reach Buherezo in his ancestral home found in Nyakibeere, but as soon as he saw us, he sent dogs to restrain us from reaching his home,” he added
Members showed their concerns saying that in case they lost a member, they hire saucepans, plates and other things to use at the burial ceremony plus spending extra costs for burial preparations hence contrary to the main aims of starting their association.
Mwerebere Edward the Chairman LC1 Nyakibeere II said that members of MWEZIIKYE have already reported the case in his office and that Buherezo will be charged cases of corrupt and fighting group leaders.
