Angry residents of Kasaana sub county, Sheema district yesterday attacked limestone miners in their area accusing them of being rain makers.
Residents claimed that whenever these miners start mining limestone in Kyeihara hill, the rain stops even if it’s a rainy season.
They added that they have tried to use peaceful means to talk to managers to atleast allow rain to fall in their area but all in vain.
After all failed efforts, residents used their Physical energy and dogs to smartly punish some miners whom they found at the place of mining.
Birukanga Dick Mbyemiire councillor Kasaana East and North told www.mknewslink.com that one time they orally agreed with the miner’s managers to allow rain to fall in their area and it rained
“We talked to them, it was on Tuesday and we agreed that on Thursday, we must receive rainfall and indeed we received it
Residents claimed that they have experienced severe famine due to drought while their neighbors are getting rains and harvesting big.
“Our intention to demonstrate isn’t that we want to chase them away from here but to bring back our peace, residents said.
Chairman LCIII Kasaana Sub county Eli Muhoozi Ndeeta said that he doesn’t believe in rain makers, but whenever his people demonstrate against the miners, Kasaana receives a lot of rainfall on that day of demonstration.
www.mknewslink.com tried to talk to one of the miner’s managers on phone about the issue but couldn’t get to him due to poor networks.
Importantly, immediately after the demonstration and attack, Kasaana Sub County received excessive rain fall which brought proved peoples suspicion that these miners might be behind drought in Kasaana.
