A six year old child was on Wednesday burnt to death by bush fire in Kinumi village, Miirya Sub County in Masindi district.
The deceased has been identified as Gerald Wanok, a son to Albert Okethwengu and Joyce Rachiwu, all residents of the same address.
George Kiiza Muniina, the sub county chairperson told www.mknewslink.com last evening that the incidence happened at 5pm on Wednesday when the deceased and other children in the village had gone hunting.
Muniina explained that while in the bush, fire broke out and the elder ones escaped leaving the youngest engulfed by the fire and ran to inform their relatives who went to its rescue but reached the scene when it had been burnt to death.
He added that he informed police at Kigulya police which went to the scene to retrieve the body.
The politician condemned the habit of setting bush fires by the area residents in the sub county and warned those caught will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The officer in charge Kigulya police, Joseph Abasa confirmed the reports when contacted on the matter.
However Abasa revealed that initial investigations show that the fire was set by unknown people who burnt one Kagabos bush where the deceased and other children were.
He added that police had retrieved the body from the scene and left it at its fathers home as they arrange for postmortem to be conducted on it later.
The police officer also revealed that police had embarked on investigations to identify and arrest those who set the fire.
