The management of St. Andrews Rubindi in Mbarara district is under scrutiny after a boarding student went missing a month ago.
Devine Ainamaani, a 14-year-old student at St. Andrews Rubindi secondary school, reportedly disappeared from the school under unclear circumstances.
Devine’s mother, Innocent Natukunda, said she visited the school on Holy Thursday (6th April 2023) to pick up her child for Easter festivities but was shocked when the school management failed to trace Devine’s whereabouts.
Despite hoping that her child would return home on Good Friday, Natukunda waited for her son in vain. This prompted her to report the case to Rubindi police station on Good Friday.
Natukunda added that her son left a letter in his school bag bidding farewell to her and his sisters before mysteriously disappearing from the school.
When contacted, the school head teacher, Bayo Herbert, refuted claims of negligence.
The Mbarara district chairperson, Didas Tabaro, faulted the school management for the negligence that caused the disappearance of one of their students.
ASP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi police spokesperson, emphasized that the security forces have also joined the search for the missing teen.
