STOP INVOLVING POLITICIANS IN JUDICIAL MATTERS—CJ KATUREEBE
BY OKOODI DEO
IN MBARARA—-
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has warned people against involving
politicians in Judicial matters.
He said the Judicial department is very important for the stability of
the country and that it should be left alone to independently do its
work without fear or favor in order to create peace and harmony among
the populace.
Speaking to Judicial officials and members of the public during a
community dialogue at Mbarara high court, Chief Justice said some
people run to government leaders for help after loosing cases in
courts of law instead of appealing court decisions to higher courts
saying such a practice undermines justice.
The tough speaking Chief Justice reminded people that even a
president’s order cannot and will never remove or nullify a court
decision given by a dully constituted court adding that its only
higher courts that can upset , dismiss it or confirm such decision
after unsatisfied party having made an appeal.
Justice Katureebe noted that such practices if not shunned will
mislead politicians hence drag the country into total mess and vowed
to defend any Judicial official caught up in the matter as long as he
or she executes official work within the prescribed laws of Uganda.
He also ordered judicial officials to report to their duty stations
on time and do their work according to law and evidence adduced in
court to avoid encountering such scenarios in future.
