Kabarole district members on the committee of Violence against Children (VAC) are irked by the manner in which some Head teachers of both private and some few government primary schools are violating the rights of children, by refusing P.7 pupils to register for Primary Leaving Examinations (P.L.E).
The meeting held at the district headquarters Kitumba, was attended by the District Inspectors of schools, District Education Officer, Health Officer, secretary for health and education, Labor officer, District Community Development Officer, Probation officer among others.
Harriet Angwena the district inspector for people with disabilities said that the act is against the government policy since it denies children chance to complete the primary cycle.
Mr. Godffrey Gumisiriza the project officer ‘Joy for Children’ noted that violations are rampant in private schools where they aim at getting grades instead of identifying the learners’ potentials and build on them.
The meeting resolved to table the concern in council to have head teachers arrested for violating government policies and denying children right to education.
In her closing remarks Madam Kasenene Elizabeth senior education officer commended ‘Joy for Children’ and other partners for the initiatives of addressing the concerns of children to ensure they grow in a friendly school and home.
