The Uganda’s deputy head of mission to Brussels accredited to European Union and Benelux countries Amb. Franklin Katungwe has advised Ugandans and particularly those from Bushenyi district where he is born to always vote ideas and material but not money.
He noted that he observed that in NRM primaries, voters voted money instead of material/ideas. He added that this results into sending to parliament weak leaders who can’t perform but hunt for money.
He said this and more yesterday evening Sept 7, 2020 in an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com at his home in Kyeitembe Bushenyi town.
Amb. Katungwe noted that in the last NRM parliamentary elections, the president’s directive on register was misinterpreted. The president did not say that non-members of the villages should vote.
He added that NRM village executives who were to vet voters at the village were not allowed to do their work. Everyone voted including people from outside the villages.
He also said that he observed underage voting and multiple voting. He noted that underage children below the age of 18 years voted and even people moved from one village to another to vote because voting in villages was done at different times.
Amb. Katungwe called upon those candidates who did not get satisfied with the exercise, to appeal to NRM electoral commission to address their problems.
He said that those who are satisfied should rally behind flag bears such that the party grows.
