STRAY BUFALLO INJURES TWO MEN IN MASINDI
By Yosam Gucwaki
In Masindi–
Two men are nursing injuries inflicted on them by a stray buffalo at
Rubona Village in Bwijanga Sub-county, Masindi District.
The yet to be identified men were part of the hunters who were
pursuing the buffalo believed be part of the three that were last
week seen roaming in Budongo sub-county, Masindi district.
The buffaloes escaped from Bugungu Wildlife Reserve in the
neighbouring Buliisa district.
The Rubona village chairman, Isaac Kasaija, yesterday said one of the
injured hunters was rushed to Bulima branch of Masindi- Kitara medical
centre for treatment before he was referred to Hoima Regional Referral
Hospital in critical condition.
However, Kasaija could not tell where the second wounded hunter was taken.
Kasaija told www.mknewslink.com reporter that the stray buffalo was later killed by other hunters, using nets and spears who later shared its meat among themselves. He said he reported the matter to the police.
A team of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) had last week teamed up with Budogo sub-county authorities to drive the buffaloes back to Murchison Falls National Park.
Our reporter could not readily get a comment from UWA about the matter as the Murchison Falls National Park assistant community warden in charge of Masindi area could not be reached at the time of filing this story.
