STRAY BUFFALOES CAUSE PANIC IN MASINDI
By Yosam Guwaki
In Masindi—
A team of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials together with
Budongo sub-county leaders in Masindi District have embarked on an
exercise to relocate three stray buffaloes that invaded the
sub-county.
The sub-county LC 3 chairman, Kenneth Nyendwoha, told www.mknewslink.com reporter yesterday that the buffaloes escaped from Bugungu Wildlife Reserve in the neighbouring Buliisa District and have been roaming in Kabango and Kasongoire parishes.
Nyendwoha revealed that though the buffaloes were first sighted
in the area last Thursday have not caused any harm in the area, their
presence has caused fear among the residents.
The continuous presence of the beasts in the area has prompted the
sub-county authorities to inform UWA who dispatched their officials to
the area in order to drive the buffaloes back to the national park.
However, Nyendwoha said that the UWA officials by press time had not yet located the animals. They believe that the buffaloes are hiding in
sugarcane plantations in the area. As such, Nyendwoha advises the
residents to inform him immediately in case they sight the animals so
that UWA can drive them back to the game park.
