STRIKE AT MBARARA UNIVERSITY AGAINST ORDERS OF MINISTER JANET MUSEVENI, PRO SAYS E-LEARNING IS ON GOING

The Public Relations Officer Mbarara University of science and technology (MUST) Angela Nakato has rubbished reports that there is a strike ongoing at the university.
Yesterday, the university staff association addressed the media in a press conference at the university announcing a strike of teaching and non-teaching staff because the government refused to enhance their salaries as earlier promised.
However, Ms Nakato told www.mknewslink.com managing Editor on Sunday afternoon that there is no effect of the strike by lecturers.
He said that students are still studying through E-learning and other online programmes though faced with a problem of data.
Meanwhile, the minister of education and sports Janet Kataha Museveni had earlier warned all public universities against strikes concerning their salary enhancement citing out the effects of COVID 19 pandemic. .
In a letter dated 15th Feb. 2021, Ms Kataha noted that the government is committed to enhancing payments of its staff in short and medium term.
She however asked academicians to join the rest to show selflessness and self-restrain to prove that in this very difficult time they will only ask what they can do for their country not what their country can do for them.
