STUDENTS’ LIVES AT STAKE AT WILDLIFE TRAINING INSTITUTE, KASESE

Over 200 students undergoing two year training in wild life and tourism management fields at Uganda wildlife training institute in Queen Elizabeth national park have said that their lives are being threatened by wild animals.

The students guild president Okello Joseph said that the Institute which is just about 100 meters away from Lake Edward is in an open area and is accessed by all categories of animals more especially at night hours.

He also complained of water supply shortage at the institute which he said puts students at risk of being grabbed by crocodiles as they look for an alternative from the Lake Edward.

The Dean of students John Turyamwesimbira said that much as the institute Administration is willing to address those challenges they are limited by the funds.

The director of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities James Lutalo advised students to know the behavior of different animal species for them to survive their attacks.

He wondered how national parks that have always been safe to tourists cannot be safe for wildlife trainees.
