In Sheema—
The fate of the Minister of science, technology and innovation Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye as a member of parliament of Sheema Municipality is set to be determined tomorrow 4th June as the date set by the supreme court to hear the appeal.
On December 27th last year, the constitutional court ordered Minister Elioda and other five Members of Parliament including Patrick Ochan, Tarsis Rwaburindore, Hashim Sulaiman ,Asuman Basalirwa and Abraham Lokii to vacate parliament following the ruling that elections conducted in the six cited municipalities were not elections for an office of MP under the constitution.
The affected MPs are from the newly created municipalities of Bugiri, Apac, Nebbi, Kotido, Ibanda and Sheema.
The Attorney General and the Electoral Commission appealed the decision by Constitutional court in the Supreme Court which gave the banished MPs a chance to stay in Parliament until the appeal is heard and determined.
The highest appellant in the country thus issued the ruling notes to be served to all the parties involved in the case.
The case was filed by former Bufumbira MP Eddie Kwizeera challenging the creation of six new municipalities including Sheema Municipality which is represented by Dr. Elioda.
Sheema residents have since then been eagerly waiting for the date to know whether they are still represented in parliament or not, and now the wait is over as its just hours from now.
