SUSPECT HANGS HIMSELF IN POLICE CELLS IN RUKUNGIRI

Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a suspect hanged himself while in their custody.

Ditas Mugarura a 28 year old man and a resident of Kinyamahwa village, Kahooko parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County was on Sunday night at around 11:00pm found hanging dead in Kebisoni police station cells in Kebisoni Sub County after being arrested on assault charges.

According to the wife of the deceased Ms. Anita Ainembabazi, she separated with her husband three weeks ago after having misunderstandings but her husband came last Saturday to where she currently stays, took her one year old girl which forced her to report the case at police. 

The deceased was hunted and arrested yesterday at around 7:00pm but the O.C station Kebisoni was shocked after finding the man hanging dead using his shirt in cells.

The DPC Rukungiri SP. Kintu Henry confirmed the death adding it was established that the man hanged himself which caused his death according to the postmortem report.

Police later discovered a child with the help of a boda boda man who drove the deceased on Saturday and was found with a woman only identified as Rita bar operator in Kagarama B village, in western division Rukungiri municipality.  

Rita was therefore arrested to help police in carrying out investigations.

The body was handed over to relatives for burial and the case was registered at Rukungiri police station under reference number CRB 2094/2020.
