SUSPECTED FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE DETECTED IN SHEEMA FARMS

Suspected Foot and mouth disease has been detected in Sheema district within Kyangyenyi Sub County.
This was revealed in a letter from the ministry of agriculture animal husbandry and fisheries permanent secretary addressed to the district Chief Administrative officer.
The letter revealed that the suspected cases of foot and mouth disease were detected in the subcounty of Kyagyenyi; 3 farms in the parishes of Kagongi and Muzira had active cases of cattle presenting with lameness, sours in the mouth, drooling of saliva.
The permanent secretary through the letter noted that samples including blood and scrapings from the wounds had been picked for lab analysis at NADDEC Entebbe and all animal movements in and out of the affected farms had been restricted and bio security through disinfection ordered on the farms.
Foot and Mouth disease was first detected in the Districts of Kazo,Ibanda, Kiruhura, Mbarara and Bushenyi.
