A 15-year-old pupil is admitted at Kabale regional referral hospital after a suspected grenade blast shattered his right hand.
The victim, Benjamin Ariho, is a Primary Six pupil at Kyanamira primary school in Kyanamira sub county, Kabale District and hails from Nyakatare Village in the same Sub County.
The incident according to Kigezi Police spokesman Elly Maate, occurred on Saturday at around 5:30pm.
The victim says he had gone to fetch water at the nearby tap, when he met his fellow classmate, Saliva Niwasiima and other children grazing goats.
While having a conversation, he says, Niwasiima picked an object and attempted to open it but failed.
Ariho says Niwasiima gave it to him to help open it and in the process it exploded.
Provia Niwagaba, the mother of the victim says they heard the explosion from home and saw smoke.
The fragments of the explosive also caused minor injuries on the victims face and thighs.
Niwagaba fears her sons hand might have to be amputated because it was seriously damaged and some of the fingers were completely destroyed.
Elly Maate says police have taken the remaining fragments to analyse whether it was a grenade or a tear gas canister.
