SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER KIDNAP OF TOURIST IN KANUNGU COMMITTED TO HIGH COURT

Five suspects who were previously arrested in connection to the kidnap of the American tourist and her driver in Queen Elizabeth national park earlier this year, but later charged with aggravated robbery, were yesterday committed to the high court in Kabale.
Presiding
over the court session, Kanungu grade one magistrate Andrew
Katurubuki committed the five suspects who are
charged with aggravated robbery and one count of kidnap with intent to procure
a ransom.
The five who include Hakimu Tumwebaze 36, Yoweri Mugabo 35, Matthias Kananura 30, Dennis Kyarissima 46 and Adam Imaniraguha 43 have been remanded for six months and have missed several court sessions.
Prosecution alleges that on 3rd August 2018 at Nyamenje in Queen Elizabeth national park Kanungu district, using deadly weapons like pangas and guns the five robbed Nassolo Sauda, Saturday Julius and kidnapped Mugabe Robert with intent to procure a ransom for his release.
These were fish traders transporting fish to the democratic republic of Congo through the Ishasha border in Kanungu district.
The suspects are now set to appear in Kabale high court on 5th November 2019 where they can file their bail application.
