SWINE FEVER HITS IBANDA,OVER 200 PIGS DEAD

Over 200 pigs have been reported dead in Ibanda District following an outbreak of African swine fever.
According to Dr. Leonard Wamala,the District Veterinary Officer, the swine fever has killed ordinary pigs including wild ones that live in the bushes.
Wamala said that the infected sub counties are Nyamarebe and Ishongorero in Ibanda North constituency where 200 pigs are allegedly reported dead while fifteen pigs have been reported dead because of the swine fever in Kagongo division, Ibanda municipality in Ibanda South Constituency.
He appealed to the local residents to take interests by exercising eating of meat that has been inspected by veterinary doctors.
He confirmed that an official statement from the veterinary department in Ibanda district has been issued that traders should not move pigs from those infected areas especially in Nyamarebe,Ishongorero and Kagongo division to pork joints in other districts.
