The tough elections for Kitagata financial services cooperative society Ltd board chair person have ended peacefully with Edgar Mukundane defeating senior politician Eldard Mwesigye with a big magic.
The elections which were conducted by show of hands were presided over by the Sheema District Commercial Officer assisted by Kitagata OC Muhoozi.
Edgar Mukundane who won the elections told members before voting that he was going to introduce internet based monitoring of members’ money without being at the branch.
He noted that he is able to know using his phone who has banked how much and who has withdrawn how much.
He went ahead to say he will be able to know who has taken a loan and who has paid a loan.
He added that he is extremely a computer literate therefore he is able to detect any fraud without first going for hustling.
His competitor Eldard Mwesigye told members that it is not true that he does not know how to use a computer because he did his degree in public administration and management from UCU Mukono.
He added that one of the course units from university was IT Systems as a tool used in offices, SACCOS and commercial banks to do work professionally.
The looser Mwesigye told delegates that he was one of the first board members of the SACCO when it started 19 years ago and therefore for him he thought he was a suitable candidate to steer the SACCO to greater heights.
The outgoing board chairman of the SACCO Emmanual Mwebesa called upon the new board to ensure that Kitagata financial services SACCO grows stronger and continues to help its members to get rich.
The outgoing chairman began the meeting telling members that he was saved and was able to begin a new chapter. He noted that retired senior commissioner of police Laban Muhabwe who was suspended from the board was re-instated yesterday.
According to the external auditors’ report (BMR Associates certified public accountants) Kitagata financial services cooperative society limited has total assets of 2,063,225,670.
Due to COVID 19, the SACCO managed to make profits worth 26,139,734. It also established a branch in Kagati, bought a building and rehabilitated it and now the branch is at the home of the SACCO. Other branches are Kasaana and Kitagata head office
