TAXI DRIVER SHOT NEXT TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Unidentified gun men yesterday 18th January stopped a taxi at Ntungwa river on Ncwera bridge along Ishasha – Katunguru road and shot at the driver injuring him seriously.
According to the Regional Police mouth Piece Elly Maate the driver only identified as Tiromwe Amon alias Kadogo was driving vehicle Ipsum type registration number UAY 679T heading from Kihiihi to Kasese.
Elly Maate says “we have started on the hurt for the assailants and the investigations too”.
He says they were three assailants armed with a gun and a machete.
Amos had two passengers in his car who were not injured but seem to have identified the thugs who took unspecified amount of money and a bag they had before disappearing in the vast Queen Elizabeth National Park.
When www.mknewslink.com reporter called the Kanungu District Police Commander Joab Wabwire, he confirmed the incident and refused to divulge further information saying it was a sensitive matter that is being investigated and followed up by a joint security force including the army.
The victim was rescued by a fellow driver who had followed him on the same route who found him in critical condition and rushed him to King David clinic in Kihiihi Town before he was rushed to Bwindi community hospital.
This comes in the wake of a kidnap of one person by unknown gunmen in Kabingo cell Kihembe parish Kanyatorogo Sub County in Kanungu district last week.
