TEACH MUSASIZI ON 14TH JAN. THAT SUPPORTING OTT WAS BAD GOVERNANCE–KENNETH JOGO
By Grant Ahumuza
In Rubanda—
The independent Rubanda east parliamentary candidate Kenneth Biryabarema Jogo has asked voters to pay back Henry Musasizi Aringanyira for supporting OTT tax that has become a burden to them.
Jogo noted that Musasizi brought the Ott/Social media tax motion in the parliament of Uganda which has deferred most Uganda from accessing vital information especially in this COVID 19 era.
Biryabarema said this on Saturday while campaigning in Bubare and Nyamweru sub counties of Rubanda east, Rubanda district.
In 2018, the government imposed a 200 shillings daily tax on social media. The tax was expected to raise at least 284 billion shillings in 2018/19 financial year. The government was only able to collect 49.5 billion shillings of that, with majority Ugandans preferring to use Virtual Private Networks (VPN) to bypass the tax.
Some people who could not use VPN simply avoided social media platforms.
Biryabarema says that Rubanda east people should show Musasizi that they were angered by the way he supported OTT social media tax motion.
He also says that people should teach Musasizi a lesson that supporting motions which can’t favor electorates is bad governance.
According to Biryabarema, Musasizi has made the whole country suffer poverty because people used to access social media platforms freely but unfortunately their own son of Rubanda introduced the bill in the parliament of Uganda.
He promised that once elected Member of Parliament, he will use his first allowances to buy an ambulance for every sub county in Rubanda east which Musasizi has failed to do.
