TEACHERS IN NEWLY CREATED KIKUUBE DISTRICT COMPLAIN OVER DELAYED SALARIES

A section of teachers in the newly created Kikuube district are complaining over delays in payment of their salary by government.
Some teachers claim that ever since Kikuube district was curved out of Hoima three months ago, salary payment has become a problem and hence teaching is now a demotivating job.
A Primary school teacher in one of the schools in Kyangwali sub-county who preferred anonymity told www.mknewslink.com that besides delays in salary payment, they also work under harsh conditions citing lack of accommodation facilities and working for long hours without any reward.
Maale Patrick, a deputy head teacher at Ngurwe government school in Kyangwali refugee settlement camp admits that there is limited accommodation facilities for teachers which affect also their output.
Deogratius Byakagaba, the Kikuube district education officer admits the problems saying the district is working hard to ensure that the affected teachers get their pay as soon as possible.
He says the problem was due to a shift budgeting tool system, differentiating payments for workers in the new district and those in the old Hoima which took them time hence affecting all civil servants.
He said although majority of the teachers received their October salary but are not yet paid due to anomalies in Tax identification Numbers, mismatches in their National Identity Cards and other details.
According to him, they have been notified, adjustments made and are now under scrutiny before they are submitted to the office of the human resource for payments to be issued.
Government decentralized payments for public servants to lower local governments to prevent cases of ghost among other issues.
