TEAR GAS, LIVE BULLETS ROCK HOIMA CITY AS POLICE DISPERSE SUPPORTERS OF ARRESTED PEOPLE POWER COORDINATOR

Police in Hoima have today 5th August 2020 fired tear gas and live bullets in different parts of Hoima Oil city to disperse supporters of Moses Aguuda, National Unity Platform coordinator Bunyoro sub region also aspirant Hoima East Division MP seat who was arrested over the weekend.
Police say that Aguuda was arrested on Sunday on charges of Unlawful assembly and violation of electoral guidelines set by the electoral commission due to COVID 19 pandemic.
Irked by the police’s refusal to release Aguuda, his supporters under the people power movement and several youths in town mobilized themselves, blocked most of the streets and started burning tyres in the middle of Hoima-Fort portal Road.
While carrying placards demanding for the release of Aguuda, the rioters spread over various parts of Hoima town in the areas of Kiryateete East and West, Lusaka, Kiganda and Park Cell.
Some of the supporters say that, they were not happy with police’s act of detaining their person with no plans of releasing him.
This prompted the police under the command of Tom Mpabaisi the OC Station Hoima Central Police Station to intercept them and started firing teargas and live bullets.
Tom Mpabaisi has said that they were forced to fire teargas and bullets because Aguuda’s supporters were violating the law.
