TEAR GAS ,LIVE BULLETS ROCK RUKUNGIRI TO BLOCK FDC’S THANKSGIVING

Tear gas and live bullets rocked Rukungiri district as police blocked the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party members from holding thanksgiving prayers that was organised in memory of a party supporter shot dead during a political rally in October last year.
Late Edson Nasasira alias Kakuru was shot dead as police blocked FDC leaders from accessing Rukungiri stadium where a rally against the removal of the presidential age limit from the constitution had been organized to take place.
During yesterdays scuffle Ingrid Turinawe and several other people were arrested as they sang religious songs at FDC office in Rukungiri town.
Kiiza Besigye and Patrick Oboi Amuriat the FDC president were blocked from leaving the formers home situated in Rwakabengo Cell in southern division Rukungiri Municipality.
Elly Matte the Kigezi region police spokesperson said they had written to FDC leaders advising them to call off the event because they didnt indicate proper particulars of the event organisers in a letter written to police on 14thNovember 2018.
Mwijukye Francis the Buhweju MP promised to re-table the issue as a matter of national importance and find why police has decided to direct the activities of FDC in the country.
He also said that they will drag police to court for blocking what he said was a peaceful assembly.
Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that what police has done must be fought by everybody so as to bring this kind of impunity to an end
