MASINDI:
Wilson Isingoma Mugimba, the former Masindi district chairperson was Wednesday evening laid to rest amidst tears at his ancestral home in Kinuuma village Miirya Sub County Masindi district.
Mugimba passed on at Lacor hospital in Gulu district on Saturday after an operation for prostate enlargement.
Cosmas Byaruhanga the Masindi district LCV Chairperson said despite the political difference, Mugimba was his best friend and they would sit at a round table and discuss.
‘’Despite contesting against me, Mugimba was a peaceful man, and was my best friend. We would sit around the table and discuss,’’ he told mourners.
Alled Ronald Akugizibwe, the Member of Parliament for Buruuli County described the deceased as a hardworking, transparent and developmental person who could not hide information from the public.
‘’We shall miss a hardworking, transparent and developmental person who could not hide information’’. Akugizibwe said.
Gerald Atugoza, a resident, described the deceased as a working man who offered all he had to change the face of his area. ‘’Mugimba loved Masindi, he has left a legacy, and we shall remember and miss him,’’ he said.
Isingoma stood against the current district chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga twice as an independent candidate in the general elections after losing the NRM flag to him.
In the last elections he caused confusion when he termed up for nomination on the NRM party ticket after the NRM election disputes tribunal had declared him the party flag bearer for the post.
This was after he had petitioned the tribunal challenging Cosmas’s victory citing malpractice.
However the district returning officer declined to nominate him on the party ticket since he had already nominated Cosmas on the same earlier.
Despite being nominated as an independent candidate, Isingoma insisted that he was the party flag bearer until the polling when he appeared on the ballot paper as an independent candidate.
