Security forces yesterday raided Kihihi and arrested more than 10 people who were suspected to have been involved in the kidnap of an American tourist one Kimberly Sue and her tour guide Jean Paul Mirenge on 2nd April 2019 in Queen Elizabeth national park in Kasese district.
The arrested were identified as Gad Mbonyibyombi a businessman in Kihihi town and his wife, Bannet Joe Kabati, Nahab, Ashiraf and Kareju.
Others are Adam Maniraguha aka Man, his wife and workers at his forex bureau Kinkizi Financial services located along Zabandora Street in Kihihi trading center.
It is alleged that Kimberly Sue a day before her kidnap had exchanged US$ 8,000 from Maniraguhas forex bureau.
Yesterdays arrest followed Mondays raid in Kihihi town where security officers arrested five suspects who included Akimu Tumwebaze Kiniga, Denis Kyarisima aka Boxer, Mugabo Yoweri and other two yet unidentified men.
It is also reported that Jean Paul Mirenge is also under custody for being part of kidnappers after being reported that he refused to go with any security officer when he went to drive the three tourists despite orders from his bosses and that a point where he stopped the car is where the gunmen jumped in.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga in a statement on Monday afternoon said security officers are currently conducting raids and searches in Kanungu district and metropolitan.
The arrests come a few days after USA President Donald Trump tasked Uganda government to ensure that the kidnappers are arrested and prosecuted.
