In Kanungu—
There was tension on Sunday in Munyaga cell in Butogota Town Council, Kanungu District after over 50 Congolese nationals crossed Ugnada through Kanungu in an attempt to avenge the death of one of their countrymen.
The Congolese entered Uganda at 11am on Saturday hunting for two Ugandans named Patirisi Baribusa and Matheus Paluku who allegedly beat to death a Congolese national, one Kamushwa Tanasia a Chef of Burambira-Munyaga, in the DRC.
It is reported that the two Ugandans who are residents of Munyaga (Uganda side) lost a mother in-law in Munyaga (DRC side) and went for a night vigil.
The Chef of Munyaga DRC reportedly heard music and noise of the people at the vigil and went in to stop the event at 4 am because they had not obtained permission from him.
In response, the Ugandan men reportedly attacked and beat him up with a blunt object on the head, killing him instantly, before they fled back to Uganda.
On Sunday morning, the Congolese community decided to invade Uganda, threatening to kill the Ugandan men that killed their chief.
The group however, was stopped by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces and Uganda police that were deployed at the border.
Hajji Shaffiq Ssekandi, the Kanungu RDC said that the main suspect, Patirisi Baribusa has been arrested and is being detained at Kanungu police station.
“He was arrested at 9.30 pm and we are looking for more suspects in the murder,” he said.
Hajji Ssekandi however, said Uganda will not be handing over the suspect to Congolese authorities because there is no extradition treaty between the two countries, unless Interpol gets involved in the matter
