TERMINATE MBARARA CITY STREET PARKING CONTRACT—CITY LEADERS DEMAND

Leaders from Mbarara city North and south divisions have petitioned the office of the city clerk demanding an explanation on why the city contract’s committee approved a reduction on street parking fees from shs.9,652,200 to shs.7,318,400 per week .They also want Wood fix Technical Services Limited suspended from the further collection of the street parking fees on grounds that it’s performance is not satisfactory with a long history of default.
Mbarara city signed a contract with Wood fix Technical Services Limited in 2017 to collect street parking fees in the city and it’s divisions.
According to the contract ,a copy of which this publication has seen,the contractor is required to deposit shillings 9,652,200 per week.
However leaders led by the two division speakers say the contractor is not satisfactory with a long history of default.According to Godfrey Tumusiime the speaker Mbarara city south division,as at 18th.sept.2023 the contractor has defaulted shs.266,309,569 covering 34 weeks where as in Mbarara city north division ,as at 21st.Nov.2023 the contractor has defaulted shs.38,971,620 covering 20 weeks, according to Silver Mugisha the division speaker.
Leaders now want the city council not to extend the contract of woodfix Technical Services Limited upon expiry of it’s contract.
When contacted, the city clerk ,Assy Abireebe Tumwesigire downplayed calls to suspend Woodfix Technical Services Limited. He instead advised the leaders to allow the company to continue collecting fees until the contract is reviewed and renewed or awarded to another company.
