Following the mass defection of FDC members to the New Formation, FDC leaders have carried out an audit exercise of the party district leaders in Ankole sub region in a bid to identify the remaining members.
During the exercise, some of the people whose names were on the list of 60 people that resigned their membership denied having done so and assured party leaders that they still subscribe to FDC.
Stanely katembeya the western region FDC chairperson said that those who resigned are cowards and that they will face a lot of challenges in the new formation.
He said soon FDC will have mobilization rallies in Ankole to recruit more members and make party structures more strong. He said despite the current political wind the party has experienced, FDC support in the region has increased.
The Buhweju MP Francis Mwijukye said that majority of the people on the list are ghost members something that has given FDC more confidence that they are still firm on ground.
The over 60 FDC leaders while resigning claimed that the inability to reconcile differing strategies made it very difficult for them to be accommodated within the party so as to find a common path towards their main purpose and objectives.
They noted that the party strategy of defiance championed by current FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat is short-sighted and totally different from the core objectives they based on to join the party.
They also said that the current political trends in the country need a rebranded political organization whose fortunes are not tied to individual but built values of civility, equity, justice and tolerance which they believe to be critical steps in the struggle for change in the country.
