TOORO KING LAUNCHES SAVE RIVER MPANGA NOW CAMPAIGN

In a bid to protect and conserve the environment andRiver Mpanga, his Royal the Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Rukidi the forth has on Saturday 11th may 2019 launched save River Mpanga now campaign.
When launching, his majesty disclosed that its everyones responsibility to keep, maintain and conserve River Mpanga and the environment.
The King has directed every person from Tooro to make sure River Mpanga is clean to avoid drinking contaminated water.
The Mp Fort portal municipality Alex Ruhunda disclosed that if River Mpanga is to be protected, every person involved in the destruction of it and the environment should be held accountable whether rich or poor.
Richard Rwabuhinga the district chairperson has explained that River Mpanga has been endangered in two ways include human activities through cultivating along the river banks, encroached at its sources by planting trees and water pollution by the people surrounding it.
Rwabuhinga has also disclosed that the water levels of River Mpanga have reduced due to the highlighted activities thus appealing to public desists from them.
The launching was attended by all security agencies including Army, police, and immigration office, local residents, journalists, deputy RDC Kabarole Festus Bandeba, local council leaders, mayor fort portal municipality and among others.
Meanwhile over 100 trees were planted by the king around river banks with the help of NGOs and Tooro botanical gardens.
