TOTAL SUPPORTS BULIISA FARMERS WITH CASSAVA MILLS

The French giant oil company Total Energies is committed to supporting Buliisa cassava farmers with mills. This was disclosed by Christopher Ocowun the company’s communications manager during the media tour on Thursday.
Ocowun disclosed that the milling machine was supposed to be installed in the last quarter unfortunately CDI that was implementing the livelihood in RAP1 ended their operations, but they have contracted living earth company and its proceeding with procedure to procure and install the mills in Kasinyi village Nile Parish Ngwedo Sub County.
He however said the mill will operate under the cooperative formed by the Project Affected People {PAPs} in the oil rich Buliisa district.
“Since the farmers have already market for their cassava, we hope the milling machine will enable them to double their profits since they have been selling raw or dried cassava,” said Ocowun.
According to Patrick Ssemonga, cassava farmer in Kasinyi, the machine will enable them to sell cassava flour thus get double profits compared to selling raw and dry cassava.
He also said they have been trekking long journeys to grid their cassava thus incurring low profits from the business.
The farmer also said since they already have a market for their cassava, they will be able to open outlets within the district or in West Nile and this will boost their income.
“Since we already have a savings SACCO, we shall be able to operate the milling machine as required by Total energies,’’ he said.
Milton Onenchan, another farmer who benefited from the project, requested fellow farmers to embrace the business saying that it has improved his household income.
In 2019, Total Energies supported farmers who were affected by oil projects in the district with improved cassava stems which has improved the farmer’s household income.
