TWO KANUNGU KIDNAPPED PUPILS RELEASED, FAMILY PAYS RANSOM OF 3.5 M

Two pupils of Rukarara primary school who were kidnapped by
suspected gunmen while in a banana plantation in Democratic Republic
of Congo-DRC have been released after the family members paid a ransom of 3.5 million shillings.
The victims Ronald Niwagaba aged 18 and Dan Tweheyo, 16both
primary seven pupils at Rukarara primary school and residents of Nyabirehe village in Kihembe parish, Kanyantorogo Sub
County, Kanungu district. Kanyantorogo borders DRC were released last evening.
The two were kidnapped on Monday evening at around 5:00pm at Ntarama cell, Buganza parish in Binza sub county Rushuro district in the
Democratic Republic of Congo when they were in their uncle’s banana
plantation with other workers.
The kidnappers later used a Ugandan MTN number to call him demanding 3000 us dollars as ransom to release the victims according to the uncle.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that the victims were released last evening after the family paid a ransom of 3.5 million shillings.
Maate said that however police will continue to hunt for the suspects.
