TWO KANUNGU PUPILS KIDNAPPED BY CONGELESE ARMED MEN

Barely a month after the kidnap of an American tourist and her driver by Congolese militia men in Queen Elizabeth national park, Congolese militiamen have once again struck and this time kidnapped two school going children from kanyantorogo sub county.
Those kidnapped have been identified as Ronald Niwagaba 18 years and Dan Tweheyo both primary seven pupils of Rukarara primary school and sons of Enoch Mirimo, a resident of Nyabirehe cell,Kihembe parish, Kanyantorogo sub county, Kanungu district.
The duo were part of a group of eight who had gone into their uncles garden in DRC to harvest matooke at a place called Ntarama cell, Buganza parish, Binza subcounty, Rushuro district.
The two were selected out by two suspected gunmen, one putting on an army uniform with a gun yet the second was in civilian attire armed with a panga.
The uncle of the kidnapped also owner of the plantation in DRC Gard Mirimo said that the kidnappers have since called and demanded for a ransom of 3000 us dollars before they release the victims. They called using a Ugandan MTN line on 0777403409.
Kanungu RDC hajji Shafiq Ssekandi Ssengooba said that security agencies are tracking the kidnappers and hopefully the victims will be rescued.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson said that police and other security agencies are working around the clock to ensure that victims are released and culprits brought to book. He said investigations into the matter continue and the incident has been registered on file ref number kihihi CRR 078/2019.
Kidnaps for ransom are common in Kanungu especially along the border with DRC in places like kyeshero, butogota, kyabuyorwa, kihembe, nyanga etc and families of kidnapped victims often negotiate with the kidnappers to reduce on the ransom before victims are set free.
