Police in Rukungiri yesterday arrested two NRM youth delegates for allegedly exchanging money during NRM youth parliamentary elections held on Saturday at district headquarters.
The RDC Rukungiri Dan Kaguta who was at the scene by the time of arrest said the two were arrested after Closed Circuit Television camera (CCTV) showed that they were exchanging money when they were already at the polling venue.
“With our CCTVs around the town the work of the police is simplified because we are monitoring all the corners of the district, we nolonger want claims that someone was arrested for supporting who and who,” Kaguta said.
The NRM registrar Jackson Mugarura Kiiza said police picked two delegates Albert Mugume and Elizabeth Rwakitonera for Unknown reasons.
“I saw two of our delegates being driven off in police vehicles saying they were taken to make a statement but I don’t know about what, I hope they will settle their matters before we vote,” he said.
One of the security officers who did not want to be named said they had a serious offence because they were exchanging money after entering the electoral area.
the elections were later held at around 2:30pm when the two were still in police custody.
It’s alleged that they were both agents of western youth MP aspirant Patrick Mwesigye.
