Two people in Isingiro district have been murdered as they attempted to carry out a land eviction without security.
The family of the victim whom police identified as Mpumwire Allen and Molly Rubakare had spent thirty seven years in land conflict until high court in Mbarara February this year settled the matter.
The one square mile land which caused unrest between the family of Rubakare Phillip and that of Rusisi Fred is situated in Kyemparo village, Kabingo Sub County in Isingiro north constituency.
High court ruled in favour of Rubakare family and later on issued out an eviction order which with the help of Isingiro police was lawfully executed on March 9th but during the eviction exercise the evictee requested for 12 hours to vacate the land and his request was reportedly granted.
However he instead pitched camp just fifty meters away from his main demolished house which action also forced Rubakare family to pitch camp on the same land until this time when they decided to carry out their own second eviction and in the process two of his family members hacked to death.
Kabingo Sub County chairman Bukenya Daniel said the attackers came with machetes and petrol to burn the property of the evictee but some were repulsed as the others two were killed
The Rwizi Region police commander Walugembe Robert condemned the attackers whom he said police will arrest and account for their action adding that two people believed to be part of the crime have so far been arrested.
The RPC faulted the people who carried out the eviction saying they shouldn’t have allowed the evicted family to erect a tent next the tradition house where they were staying hence culminating into bloodshed.
