In Uganda /Kabale—-
Senior four candidates across the country have today started their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, following candidate briefings on October 8, 2026, and will run up to November 3, 2026.
503,214 candidates registered nationwide (238,426 males and 264,788 females) compared to 432,163 students who sat for the examinations last year.
School fees disputes and morning rains disrupted the start of the 2026 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations on Monday, with some candidates facing the threat of being locked out over unpaid balances while head teachers in several districts struggled to collect examination papers on time.
Speaking to journalists today at Kabale Police Station, Amos Ahimbisibwe, the area supervisor for Distribution, said examination materials had been dispatched to all the 28 examination centres ahead of the start of the examinations.
Ahimbisibwe explained that examination materials for distant centres were dispatched from 8:30 a.m., while those for nearby schools were sent out shortly before the examination started.
He said the distribution exercise involved handling a large volume of materials because it was the first examination paper, but expressed confidence that most centres would begin at the scheduled time.
Ahimbisibwe identified poor weather conditions as a potential challenge, particularly when accessing examination centres located far from the distribution station.
Peninah Ssajjabi Twebaze, the head teacher of Bishop Kivengyere Girls School in Muyebe, said all 65 registered candidates were present and ready to sit their examinations.
Nicholas Twinamatsiko, the head teacher of St. Charles Secondary School in Kicumbi, also confirmed that all 72 candidates registered at the school were available to sit the examinations.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime warned parents and other unauthorized persons against accessing examination centers, emphasizing that only accredited individuals will be allowed onto the premises.
Tumushime has called on all stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the examinations.
