SPORTS NEWS: REAL MADRID FACE ATLETICO MADRID IN UEFA SUPER CUP
Real Madrid start a new era without Cristiano Ronaldo along with head coach Zinedine Zidane when they face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in Estonia on Wednesday (kick-off 8pm BST).
Gareth Bale, Thibaut Courtois and Luka Modric in Real squad for UEFA Super Cup clash in Estonia
Julen Lopetegui has replaced Zidane but the only signings so far have been defender Alvaro Odriozola, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Brazilian youngster Vinicius Junior.
All three of the new additions could make their competitive debuts against Atletico at the 15,000-capacity A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, Estonia.
Ronaldo’s departure could mean a bigger role in the team for Gareth Bale, who spent much of last season on the bench but has impressed in pre-season.
Real have won the Champions League three years in a row and Lopetegui is aware of the expectations.
Much of Real’s success in the Champions League in recent seasons has come at Atletico’s expense.
Diego Simeone’s side were beaten in the 2014 and 2016 finals by Real and also lost in the semi-finals in 2017.
But they won the Europa League last season and have strengthened over the summer with the signings of Thomas Lemar, Gelson Martins, Rodri, Nikola Kalinic and Santiago Arias.
CHELSEA MIDFIELDER TIEMOUE BAKAYOKO JOINS AC MILAN ON LOAN
Tiemoue Bakayoko leaves Chelsea to join AC Milan on season-long loan with option to buy on purchase option of £35.65m
The 23-year-old France international joined from Monaco last summer for £40m and started 25 Premier League games in his first season at the club.
Chelsea have boosted their midfield options this summer with the high-profile signing of Jorginho from Napoli, a player Sarri knows well, and Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid.
Bakayoko was not in the squad for Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Huddersfield as goals from debutant Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Pedro secured a 3-0 win.
Milan have confirmed Bakayoko will be presented to the Italian media in a press conference on Friday afternoon.
NYAMITYOBORA FC SUFFER DEFEAT TO KCCA IN PILSNER SUPER 8 SEMIFINAL
Mbarara based club Nyamityobora FC yesterday fell to KCCA in a 4-0 humiliation at Star times stadium, Lugogo on tuesday.
Striker Patrick Henry Kaddu scored a first half brace with two second half goals from Allan Okello and a rare strike from substitute Lawrence Bukenya crowning the glowing evening before a relatively fair crowd that included Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre.
Kaddu opened the scoring inside the opening twenty minutes after he lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Franco Oringa following a school boy mistake just outside the goal area before tapping in an empty net.
Three minutes later, Kaddu finished from close range – thanks to Julius Poloto’s well laid ball inside the goal area.
The spicy dancing celebration after each of Kaddu’s goals told the detailed story-line and the euphoria from the rest of stands.
Okello who had relatively silent day in office poked home the third before Bukenya’s rare strike, a beautiful finish after substitute Muwadda’s teasing delivery on the right hand by-line.
KCCA will now wait for a winner between Onduparaka FC and SC Villa whose match was postponed due to security reasons in Arua Municipality.
