UGANDA MARINE DEFENSE FORCES CLASH WITH RWENSHAMA RESIDENTS OVER KIOSK DEMOLITION.

Tension continues to ride high among residents of Rwenshama fishing village, Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri district, regarding the imminent destruction of kiosks in the area.
This is due to the continued disagreements between marine forces commanded by Lt Bernard Beingana and residents about the existence of the kiosks.
Lt Beingana claims that the kiosks should be removed because they interfere with the surveillance exercise of the lake while residents look at them as a source of their livelihoods.
Ronald Nahabwe , the Community Development Officer Bwambara Sub County says a meeting between area leaders and marine forces was held but did not yield anything as no agreement was reached.
Nahabwe says the area leaders insisted that the kiosks should remain while Lt Beingana gave a deadline of 1st Sept for them to be put to the ground adding that two kiosks are already demolished.
Kenneth Mugisha, the area LCI chairperson says as leaders, they are against the demolition of the kiosks, because they generate revenue to the Government, in addition to being used by traders.
This is not the first time Lt Beingana ordering for the demolition of the kiosks.
Early this month, he gave an ultimatum of three days which caused the intervention of district leadership led by the district RDC Dan Kaguta and they halted the demolition as they discussed their fate.
The area has around 30 kiosks that accommodate over 60 people.
