UGANDA’S AMBASSADOR TO RWANDA HOLDS CRISIS METTING OVER BORDER CLOSURE

The Uganda’s Ambassador to the Republic of Rwanda Oliver Wonekha is holding a crisis meeting together with security officials from the districts neighboring Uganda-Rwanda border over border closure.
The meeting that started yesterday morning at Cephas Inn in Kabale municipality is being chaired by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darias Nandiinda.
Ambassador Wonekha is accompanied by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) ,Defence Attach at the Ugandan Embassy in Rwanda Mag. Gen. Emmanuel Nyamunywanisa and Police, Army from Ntungamo, Kabale and Kisoro districts plus custom officials at Katuna,Chanika and Mirama borders.
In his remarks, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darias Nandiinda, explained that the closure has seriously crippled business and well being of locals from both countries neighboring the border, an issue that need to be addressed.
He however says that the borders closure has not affected security within the three districts.
Nandinda then ordered the journalists out of the meeting arguing that matters to be discussed are very sensitive and only belongs to security.
Rwanda closed its borders with Uganda on February 27, 2019, to purportedly expedite the construction of single custom at Gatuna border.
Rwanda advised truck drivers destined from Kigali to use Kagitumba border via Mirama Hills.
The Rwandan officials including President, Paul Kagame later accused Ugandan authorities of abducting its citizens and locking them up in ungazetted areas.
Rwanda also accused Uganda of hosting and facilitating dissidents especially Rwanda National Congress-RNC and the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), which have declared war on the Kigali government.
