UNRA BEGINS RE-CONSTRUCTION OF KAMWEZI COLLAPSED BRIDGES, ROADS

Uganda National Roads Authority UNRA has started the re-construction of Kamwezi collapsed bridges and roads.

The bridges that connect Omunkole ,Nyaruhanga , Rugaaga,Murutare ,Nyamabare , Buziba  in Parish , Kamwezi Subcounty collapsed on 30th March 2021 during a rain that poured the whole day .

The bridge that connects Omunkole , Nyaruhanga ,Rugaaga ,Murutare , Nyamabare ,Buziba , Rwenyangi parishes  Kamwezi Subcounty Rukiga district had earlier collapsed.

Residents in Kamwezi planned a peaceful demonstration citing shoddy work and embezzlement of funds by the contractors.

Speaking at the site, the district vice Chairman Micheal Kwarikunda Mbareba assured residents that he has combined his efforts with Chief Administrative officer Rukiga District acquire emergency work on Kamwezi ring roads.

He added that UNRA in Kabale regional office has immediately responded to work on the collapsed bridges and ring roads sending a grader to clear the mess.

Mbareba asked residents to remain calm and united as the district looks for the way to sort their troubles.

Rukiga as a district started operation in August 2017 and is made up of 4 sub counties of Kamwezi ,Bukinda , Rwamuchuchu , Kashambya and 2 town councils of Mparo and Muhanga .

But service delivery has been a challenge in all Sub counties and town councils.
