Over 1,000 residents of Kikongi parish in Bwambara sub-county, Rukungiri district affected by Rukungiri-Kanungu-Ishasha road tarmacking project are pondering for the next move after Uganda National Roads Authority UNRA delayed their compensation.
The 207.8 billion shillings road project of 78.5km kicked off in 2018 with the construction work taking a period of 3 years due to the delayed compensation.
Sayuni Bernada, Doreen Kyoshabire and Liberty Kisakyakatonda all residents of Kikongi parish say their pieces of land were marked and valued last year, but they have never received any compensation.
Rujumbura County Member of Parliament, Hon. Fred Turyamuhweza, who is also the Chairperson Rukungiri roads committee, called for calmness, noting that he has already notified UNRA for a quick response.
Turyamuhweza told the project affected persons that the compensation exercise will commence in August this year since UNRA is to receive funds early next month.
The Rukungiri Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Betty Bamukwasa Muzanira, called on residents to prepare their documents that include the national IDs for a clear compensation exercise.
