UPDF SOLDIER SHOT DEAD BY MBARARA POLICE OFFICER

Police in Mbarara city are investigating a murder case after their own officer shot and killed a UPDF soldier near the Bank of Uganda Branch on Friday.
According to SP Emmanuel Bwambale, DPC Mbarara City, the incident happened at around 6PM at the residence of the Field Force Unit (FFU) opposite Bank of Uganda when Police Constable Charles Opio killed Lance Corporal Yeremiah Paper a UPDF officer attached to Ruhengyere Engineering Brigade in Kiruhura district.
He added that the deceased’s body has been conveyed to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.
Eyewitnesses told www.mknewslink.com that after shooting the dead the UPDF officer, the police officer fired bullets in the air as he entered Mbarara central police station from where he was later arrested.
The latest incident adds to the rising cases of gun violence in the country.
Recently, at least eight people have been killed in the separate shooting incidents in Kampala and various parts of the country.
