UTC-BUSHENYI TURNED INTO CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Ministry of education has located six centres of excellence in Uganda in a bid to promote skills and curb unemployment.
This was today revealed by Assistant Commissioner of Technical education;Loy Abaine Muhwezi who was speaking at a three-day sensitization workshop at Uganda Technical College- Bushenyi.
Uganda Technical College-Bushenyi is among the six centres of excellence that will benefit from a US$100m loan secured by the ministry of education to promote skills in the country.
Muhwezi, said each college will specialize in a different sector of their preference in a bid to promote technology among Ugandans..
UTC-Bushenyi will specialize in manufacturing, UTC-Lira, in road construction,UTC- Elgon in general construction while UTC-Bukalasa will specialize in Agriculture and UTC-Kigumba; in petroleum processing.
The principal Uganda Technical College-Bushenyi;Silver Mukwasiibwe said there is no need to turn the institution into University, arguing that now Uganda needs only skills to develop.
He explained that one Engineer uses more than one hundred technicians, to do his work, thus a need to train as many technicians as possible.
The ministry of education has embarked on sensitization workshops to guide the institutions on implementing the World Bank loan.
The ongoing workshop at Uganda Technical college-Bushenyi is attended by Mbarara Resident district commissioner; Martha Asiimwe and commissioners from ministry of education.
