VIOLENCE MARS RUHAAMA BY-ELECTION

Drama ensued at Ruhaama play ground in Ruhaama county Ntungamo district yesterday January 1st 2018 when the supporters of one of the contestants in Ruhaama County by election; Eng. Jackson Mubangizi Jackson Kabeikire ran battles with security authorities after cancelled a football match, rope pulling and marathon at last.
The scuffle started when Eng. Mubangizi’s supporters organized games and marathon at Ruhaama play ground in the area where Joseph Mukasa Kihosho is the NRM chairman.
Mubangizi is running as an independent in the Ruhaama County by election.
The football match and rope pulling sponsored by Dr. Triffone Mugisha was between Nyakinombe Cell FC and Mutojo Cell FC all from Rwengoma parish, then Marathon was from Ruhaama T/center to Kakukuuru T/center.
When Eng Jackson Mubangizi Kabeikire arrived at the Playground was blocked by O/C Mirama police post; ASP Kennedy Ssebagala which angered the supports from both sides accusing police of intimidation and being sided with NRM.
They also castigated the manner in which Ntungamo RDC; Justine Mbabazi and Joseph Mukasa are handling independent candidates in Ruhaama county by-election yet Uganda is in multiparty dispensation.
According to Asiimwe Kasule who organized the games they were stopped due to political reasons in order to block Eng. Mubangizi from addressing his supporters who were gathered at the pitch for the marathon.
But the OC police station Kafujo –Mirama Hills; Kennedy Ssebagala cited the insecurity of runners, noting that the organizers did not follow right procedures to get traffic police to guide the runners on the road.
When the NRM candidate Kahima Moses Mugabe who was supposed to be in Itojo Sub County came to the venue,the residents pulled down the tents and took off with plastic chairs.
There are four candidates in the race including independent candidates Dr Beinomugisha Penninah Jumbo, Eng. Mubangizi Jackson Kabikire, Orishaba Vastine and Kahima Moses Mugabe of NRM.
Polling day is slated on the January 11, 2018.
