The vice president Rt. Maj. Jessica Alupo has hailed the bishop of west Ankole diocese Rt. Rev. Johnson for greatly reducing the conflicts that were at their peak when he took over in May 2017.
The vice president’s message was in his speech read by Minister of ICT, communication and national guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi at Bweranyangi hill on Saturday 28th May 2022.
This was during celebrations of the 5th anniversary by Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni as the West Ankole diocesan Bishop.
According to information available, by the time Bishop Johnson took over, there were sharp conflicts between the people of Sheema and Igara and the emeritus bishop Yona Katonene was in the middle.
Bishop Yona Katonene had serious battle with Sheema Christians and it is alleged that the Christians had the support of the then archbishop Stanley Ntagali.
Vice president through Baryomunsi hailed the government of Uganda for thoroughly tarmacking the road from the Mbarara- Kasese highway to the diocesan headquarters at Bweranyangi.
The function was preceded by a fundraising to build a specialized hospital at Katungu belonging to West Ankole diocese.
