WE CAN’T STOP THE STRIKE UNLESS VC, SECRETARY STEP ASIDE—-MBARARA UNIVERSITY STAFF TELL CHANCELLOR, COUNCIL CHAIRMAN
By Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante
Striking Mbarara university teaching and non teaching staff have vowed to continue with the strike unless the vice chancellor Prof.Celestine Obua and university secretary Melchior Byaruhanga step aside.
This was communicated to the chancellor and university council chairman in a meeting held in Kampala with staff representatives, chancellor and university council chairman.
The strike started last week on Thursday 1st.May.2019 and has so far paralyzed work at the university as students are supposed to begin exams a week from now.
The university council chairman Dr.Ben Mbonye and chancellor Pro.Charles Olweny pleaded with staff representatives to stop the strike but staff insisted that the two staff, vice chancellor and university secretary must first step aside.
The contract for vice chancellor will end in October and he wants to renew the contract but the staff don’t want.
